10-week Intensive Outpatient Programme
Alongside our established 14-week Start2Stop Intensive Outpatient Programme, we have now introduced a new 10-week programme. A client’s appropriateness for the 10-week pathway would be established at point of assessment.
Outline & Basic Structure
Overview
The 10-week programme has been specially designed for those coming home from 28-days + primary treatment, who want help, support and scaffolding as they build a life in recovery in London.
It may also be a very appropriate programme for a person already well-rooted in 12- Step fellowships but struggling to stay clean & sober for any meaningful period of time (binge pattern).
It may also be relevant for those finding it difficult to access the 14-week programme due to financial constraints.
The 10-week programme aims to cover broadly the same addiction-recovery material that we would offer over the 14-week program, and is therefore suited to highly motivated clients, with a degree of stability and self-efficacy on board, but who would benefit from an additional period of support, community and accountability.
10-Week Programme outline
Sessions take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (18:00–21:00), as well as on Saturdays (11:00–13:30) for the first 5 weeks.
The programme consists of a combination of individual therapy, family work, group therapy, workshops, homework, 12-Step meeting attendance and educational lectures. Our clients are also drug and alcohol screened every week.
In brief, the core areas of focus include:
- Examining the personal narrative that sustained addiction
- Developing a deeper understanding or construct of addiction
- Developing and working through a programme of change
- Building the architecture needed for long-term and sustainable recovery
These aims are achieved through various formats such as group therapy; life story presentations; topic/themed groups; lectures; family work; individual counselling; and more.
The first phase (5 weeks) focuses on the damages caused by the addiction and on building a recovery community. After this period, clients will transition into the Secondary Phase of the program, during which Saturday sessions are no longer required.
The second 5-week phase offers a broader exploration of issues related to relationships, cross‑addiction, family dynamics and relapse prevention, with group process remaining a key component throughout.
In addition, clients will have a weekly one‑to‑one session with a dedicated counsellor at a mutually agreed time. Clients will be assigned written work to review in session.
Clients will also be expected to attend 12-Step Meetings, secure a sponsor and attain a service position. A weekly family support group is also very much on offer to loved ones.
Saturday sessions (during the first 5-week phase) include creative and expressive therapies such as yoga; art; meditation and chanting, as well as a Recovery Review group.
